Around this time last year, I was not the same Christian as I am now. I feel like I have gone through a whole maturation process this summer. There were times when I wasn’t fully into being a Christian; I’m just being completely honest with you. I was the type to come to church just to look at the clock to see when it was time to go; I just wasn’t really into it. But this past year I feel that God has spoken into my heart to let me know that it was time for me to grow, and I feel like I have done that this summer! Though I am not perfect and still a growing Christian, God has taught me one important lesson this summer: God’s word needs to also be told outside the four walls of the church as well. Attending church is a great thing, don’t get me wrong, but we shouldn’t just learn the gospel just to keep it inside the church; that’s a big waste. We need to go outside the church to tell others that don’t know about God’s word. I’ve learned this summer that the church is a place that we go to get fed the word of God, then we take what we’ve learned to go feed others. We need to be a blessing to others because God has been a blessing to us; I can definitely attest to that. I was blessed with the opportunity to teach a vacation bible school class this summer. The “old” me would of turned down the opportunity to teach a vacation bible school class because I would of been too ashamed to teach a class among my peers, but I stepped out of my “comfort zone” and couldn’t turn down the opportunity. I knew it was a perfect chance for me to grow.
I really didn’t write this post to talk about myself. I just really wanted to encourage everybody (including myself) to not be ashamed of telling others about God outside the four walls of the church. Trust me, there’s somebody out there who needs it. I know it may not be the “coolest” thing to let others know about Christ, especially around my age. But we have to step up and be leaders. We are being faithful to God by telling others. Let our testimony be a blessing to others.
