One of the things that has plagued the majority of our human lives is this enemy called mediocrity. So many of us settle for it, but not many want it. Many want to live a more exciting life, but are not willing to get out of the comfort zone to get to that destination. And I think most of us are frustrated because we know that there has to be more to life, and we know that we can achieve it. There is something within you that God has place inside, and God has gifted you to do just that. If you do not do anything about it then life will continue to be monotonous. Do you really believe you were put on this Earth to just pay bills and work a job you may not like?
I say this because with all my heart I believe that Jesus Christ came to drag us out of living a mediocre life. The more I read the Gospels, the more of a radical person Jesus appears to be. I used to think that if I gave my life to God then it would mean submitting to a God who wants me to live a boring life. This is not surrendering to God’s will at all. Because of lack of knowledge, I failed to realize who God was. Think about it, how could the inventor of laughter and fun be against you having laughter and fun? There are many scriptures that say God wants to prosper you(Jeremiah 29:11), he wants to do exceeding abundantly above all that we may ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Think and meditate on the depth of that scripture! Now if you believe that God can do that with your life, it is just the beginning of the excitement of living a life of faith that is following God. Think about it like this, before you came out of your mother’s womb, God knew exactly who you were, what type of personality he was going to give and what type of skills he wanted to equip you with. God knew you before your mother did, he just used your mother to get you into the world (Jeremiah 1:5).
So why aren’t more people trusting Jesus with their lives? One reason is because there is not a true understanding on who Jesus really is. The word says that God has made salvation available to all of mankind (Titus 2:11), but there were still be many who will deny the salvation that God has made for mankind through Jesus Christ. So God has made it available for all of mankind to be saved, it is now just for us to believe. Believing is seeing with your spiritual eyes that will lead to life transformation. Have you ever listened to the song Amazing Grace? The song writer, John Newton, wrote “I once was lost, but now am found. T’was blind but now I see. ” So it is the believing first that opens peope’s eyes to the amazing grace of God. Many do not realize that Jesus is for them and loves them. You can always measure the depth of someone’s love for someone else by what they are willing to sacrifice for them. So if someone says they love you, but are not willing to sacrifice anything for you, then do they really love you? Let that be the measuring on if it is true love. God became a man in the person of Jesus Christ and said that he loved humans so much that he had to give his own human life as an atonement for mankind’s sin so that mankind can be united to God again. The problem begins when we read false information about Jesus. Please do not believe everything you see on the Internet nowadays. People rely on Facebook as their number one source of news, and then believe false information on who Jesus is. You cannot base on your assumption on who Jesus is by what you see on a meme. Jesus never said I came to give you religion. Religion is man made, and there were already plenty of religions when Jesus arrived on Earth. Religion cannot truly save, it will only hardened. Only true relationship with God through Jesus Christ can deliver. The Gospel is good news, why would people reject some good news that can pull you out of a life of mediocrity. When Jesus was on Earth, all he did was heal the sick, feed the poor, preach about a better world system in the kingdom of God and love on people. How can you not love and believe in a person like that? The devil has done a work at blinding the world on how great Jesus Christ is (2 Corinthians 4:4).
I say that because God wants all to be saved, and for the people that are saved, God wants them to walk out in their God-given destiny. There has to be more to the Christian life than just going to church, checking some things off the list and obeying some rules. If that is what we think it is then we have completely missed the Gospel. The Apostle Paul was a man who was so radical about the assignment that Jesus gave him. He said “For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!” Paul did not settle for mediocrity, here was man who was not satisfied until he fulfilled what God put inside of him to do. This man was a former terrorist and ended up being one of the most influential human beings to ever walk this Earth. I say that because that is just one example of what God will do with a person’s life. He will erase your past, and give you purpose, happiness, influence, skill, honor, peace, strength over trials and tribulations in life and I could just go on and on. Paul encountered Christ and was compelled to do everything that God had set out for him. God has things set up for the believer, but cannot pass it on unless he believes it and act on the grace made available. Matter fact, the scriptures say he set things up for the believer before we existed (Ephesians 2:10). I believe he longs for the believer to not pursue mediocrity because humans were not made for it, humans were made for God-given destiny.
“[I always pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may grant you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation [that gives you a deep and personal and intimate insight] into the true knowledge of Him [for we know the Father through the Son]. 18 And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very center and core of your being] may be enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy Spirit], so that you will know and cherish the [a]hope [the divine guarantee, the confident expectation] to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the [b]saints (God’s people), 19 and [so that you will begin to know] what the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His [active, spiritual] power is in us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of His mighty strength” Ephesians 1:17-19
