The Hope of Christmas

It is easy to get boggled down with all of the busyness of the Christmas season. It is the most wonderful time of the year, but at the same time it can be the most stressful time of the year. It is the time of the year when most retail businesses are banking on receiving most of its profits as we bombard the stores to get our loved ones gifts. The most wonderful time of the year has become the most busiest time of the year. A day that was meant to celebrate the human birth of the Savior has become more about busyness rather than resting and enjoying the arrival of Jesus.

This season was meant for joy, and the even better news is that Jesus came so that we can live in everlasting joy. We cannot forget the reason for this season, it is the day when joy came to the Earth. It was the greatest gift that people could have ever received. It is not a materialistic gift that will rot away and eventually be in someone’s garage sale, but it is a gift that would last for eternity. It is a gift that has implications for right now and forever. If Christmas could be defined by one statement, I believe that it should be this: God came to Earth and became man. The moment was so spectacular that the angels rejoiced and said “ Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” At one point in history God was a baby and this would bring hope to the people who were hopeless. The baby came during a pivotal point in world history, it was during the time of the Roman reign on Earth, they were the strongest government to ever exist. It was hard for God’s chosen people, the Israelites, to have hope, but some continued to wait on the arrival of this promised Savior. But even this strong government in human history could not stop his arrival. After so much waiting for this Savior he finally arrived, and when he finally arrived it was the beginning of the first Christmas.

During this wonderful time of the year let us not forget. He came into the world as the Light for all men. When the Bible uses the world “Light”, it is saying that he is the answer for all of the world, he is the one to follow in a dark world. This Light was to be an example for the rest of the world, and the same example remains the same for believers today. We celebrate this day not just for the gifts and time with family, which is very great. But we celebrate because the fullest joy and hope that mankind could have finally arrived on the scene. It is because of him that I find purpose in my life, it is because of him that I can have more joy in tough times than a rich man who does not know him. He is my provider, my sovereign protector, my everything and I believe that he is fully God and fully man, what a wonderful thing to grasp. His name is Jesus and what a wonderful day it was when he stepped out of eternity and entered time to save me. Just think 33 years later in his life, he would go to the cross as Jeremy Eackles because of my sins to face a brutal death, so that I could be seen as righteousness in the eyes of the Father. He had me on his mind when he was going to the cross. No one truly knows if this was the actual day when Jesus was born into the Earth, but even if it is not I still want to use this post to tell him happy birthday! Christmas is to remind us that the hope of the world is here today!
